Keonjhar, Ap 29: In a significant move to strengthen infrastructure and public transport, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple development initiatives in Keonjhar district. Projects worth approximately ₹1,330.24 crore were launched, encompassing 187 schemes aimed at boosting regional growth.
A major highlight of the event was the introduction of a modern urban transport system. The Chief Minister flagged off 25 electric buses and inaugurated an ‘Ama Bus’ depot constructed at a cost of ₹17 crore. This initiative is set to enhance public transport facilities across the district.
The newly launched e-bus service offers affordable fares starting from just ₹5. All buses are fully air-conditioned and equipped with advanced safety features, including CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and GPS tracking systems, ensuring safe and secure travel, particularly for women passengers.
The program is also expected to generate employment opportunities, with around 150 individuals engaged under the scheme, including 30 female guides and two female drivers.
Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi noted that while Keonjhar has long contributed to the state’s economy, it had often been overlooked. “Development in the district has now gained momentum under the current government,” he said, adding that the final process for establishing a mega steel plant in the district is underway and will be launched soon.
Highlighting environmental benefits, the Chief Minister stated that the e-bus network is projected to cut carbon emissions by 330 to 390 tonnes annually. Plans are also underway to extend the service to other cities, with ₹238 crore allocated for maintenance and expansion.
Emphasizing the importance of the coming decade for Odisha’s growth, CM Majhi called on citizens to actively participate in building a prosperous state by 2036, underscoring Keonjhar’s pivotal role in this vision.
