Bhubaneswar, December 3: The Excise Department has registered 166 cases and seized contraband valued at Rs 1.22 crore on the 14th day of its ongoing special enforcement drive on Friday.

The special drive against the illegal activities commenced on December 20.

According to official data, 89 persons were arrested during the day’s enforcement operations, including seven cases booked under the NDPS Act. As many as eight vehicles were seized in connection with the violations.

The seizures included 5,632 bulk litres of illicitly distilled liquor and 283 bulk litres of duty-paid liquor. Other recoveries comprised 44,005 bulk litres of fermented wash, 11,250 kg of gur wash and 10 kg of Bhanga. Narcotics seized during the operations included 755 grams of brown sugar.

On December 31, the excise sleuths registered 280 cases and seized contraband valued at Rs 1.43 crore.
