Balasore, Oct 23: A Jatra troupe vehicle was detained at Jagannathpur village under Gopalpur police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district by locals for allegedly not staging the show after receiving advance payment.
As per reports, the vehicle of ‘Gouri Gananatya’ Jatra troupe was detained by the members of Baripada Jagannathpur Jatra Committee.
It was alleged that one jatra troupe ‘Jatra Mayanagari’ was paid Rs 1 lakh as advance for staging a show last year. However, the troupe neither stage the show, nor refunded the advance money. Later, the ‘Jatra Mayanagari’ merged with ‘Gouri Gananatya’.
Reports said that three other Jatra committees of Bhadrak district had also paid advance to the aforementioned troupe for staging show which did not happen.
After learning about the Jatra troupe, the members of Jagannathpur Jatra Committee along with three other Jatra committees rushed to the spot and detained the troupe’s vehicle to proceed further.
Later, the complainants sought the help of Gopalpur Police in getting refund of the advance money.
