Bargarh, July 10: A hotel owner was allegedly murdered reportedly due to past rivalry over ganja smuggling in Paikamal locality of Odisha’s Bargarh district last night

The deceased has been identified as Pinku Sahu (37), a resident of Mandosil village under Paikamal police limits in the district.

As per reports, the victim, who used to run a hotel located in front of the Nuapada tehsil office, was allegedly attacked by some miscreants with sharp weapons on Bhutamunda Road near his village last night. He sustained grave injuries in the attack.

Thereafter, some locals informed his family members who then arrived at the spot and rushed Pinku to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). However, the attending doctors declared him dead. The victim’s body bore injury marks on the head and neck.

Upon getting the information, police arrived at the hospital and sent his body for post-mortem.

Sources said that Pinku was involved in ganja smuggling. Though the exact reason behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, police suspect that it might have been a fallout of past rivalry over the smuggling of the contraband.

A probe has been launched into the matter and everything will be clear soon, said the police.
