HRAO urges hotels to enhance screening after government warning.
Bhubaneswar: Following a tragic car blast in Delhi on Monday, the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) has issued an urgent Odisha hotel security alert to all its member establishments. This immediate action comes in direct response to a "danger alert" issued by the Government of Odisha, signaling a heightened threat perception across the state.
The concern among authorities is high. There is a specific fear that "anti-socials" may attempt to target key tourist destinations and vital state installations. The circular, which was also released to the media, specifically noted that crucial infrastructure, such as the Hirakud Dam, and other prominent locations could be on the list for these elements. In this critical situation, HRAO warned that hotels "could be among the first points of entry and stay" for such individuals planning disruptive activities.
In the press release dated November 11, HRAO Lifetime Chairman Dr. J. K. Mohanty made a strong appeal to all hotel owners. He urged them to immediately "tighten security measures" within their properties. This directive includes enhancing guest screening and implementing professional frisking by security personnel.
Crucially, the circular stressed that these necessary checks must be conducted "in a courteous and professional manner, without annoying" the guests. This balance between security and hospitality is key. Furthermore, all hotel staff are instructed to be extra vigilant and seek "immediate assistance from local police authorities" if they notice any suspicious individuals or activities.
HRAO is not only instructing its members but also appealing to the public and media for support. The association requested media partners to help spread awareness among visitors and tourists. It is important, the statement noted, that guests understand the necessity for these enhanced security protocols, especially as the state prioritizes tourist safety in Odisha. Dr. Mohanty emphasized the need for "full cooperation" from all visitors during any screening or verification procedures.
The association concluded by framing this as a collective effort. "Let us work together to ensure the safety and security of our guests, staff, and properties, thereby upholding the image of Odisha as a safe and welcoming tourist destination," the statement concluded.
