Four new initiatives promise massive empowerment for female residents
President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to inaugurate a quartet of progressive initiatives aimed at uplifting female citizens this Monday at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Spearheaded by the capital's administration, these programs focus heavily on social safety nets and digital inclusion. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has hailed this rollout as the dawn of unprecedented financial independence, digital transparency, and social security for the region's female population.
Commuting will become significantly easier through the introduction of the 'Saheli Pink Smart Card.' Built upon the National Common Mobility Card infrastructure, this specialised pass grants transgender individuals and eligible women completely free rides on public buses. Furthermore, users can utilise the exact same touch-free card to pay for fares on the Regional Rapid Transit System and Metro networks. Authorities plan to distribute these passes across designated DTC hubs and numerous DM/SDM branches. To prevent fraud, officials will verify applicants using Aadhaar authentication linked directly to their mobile numbers.
Alongside improved daily transit, households will receive crucial relief regarding essential cooking fuel costs. Officials estimate that roughly 15.50 lakh families currently holding ration cards will benefit from a new gas subsidy. Under this specific program, the monetary equivalent of two LPG cylinders will be transferred directly into the primary provider's bank account via the Direct Benefit Transfer system precisely during major festival seasons.
Securing a brighter, more stable future for young girls sits at the heart of the 'Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana.' Government funds totaling Rs 56,000 will be allocated in strategic phases for each enrolled infant. By the time the child reaches her 21st birthday, this fund is projected to exceed Rs 1 lakh due to accumulated interest.
To qualify for this lucrative educational payout, families must earn an annual income below Rs 1.20 lakh, prove three years of continuous residency in the capital, and ensure the child was born locally. Beneficiaries are also required to pursue recognized professional diplomas or university degrees to unlock the final maturity amount. This particular financial program is capped at two daughters per household.
Rounding out the sweeping reforms, the administration will expedite the clearance of overdue citizen payouts through the 'Meri Punji Mera Adhikaar' framework, promising timely financial resolutions. Chief Minister Gupta noted that this entire suite of programs draws direct inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's broader 'Digital India' ambitions, ultimately laying the groundwork for a highly modernized, transparent social support network.
