Sambalpur, July 25: In response to the rising water levels due to continuous rainfall, authorities on Friday opened four additional sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur.
With these additional gates being opened to release water, the total number of gates through which water is being released has reached 12 — 8 gates on the left side and 4 on the right side.
As of 9 AM this morning, the water level in the reservoir is 609.17 feet. The inflow is 1,86,815 cusecs per second, while the outflow is 1,56,194 cusecs per second.
On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
The IMD has also predicted heavy rain in other districts, including Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Sambalpur, and Nabarangapur.
In the past 24 hours, many districts have experienced heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, leading to waterlogging and disruptions in daily life.
