Bhubaneswar, August 2: In a significant move to address the shortage of teachers, the Odisha government has decided to reappoint 6,387 retired teachers as guest teachers across the state. The Department of School and Mass Education has issued a directive to the Directorate of Secondary Education, outlining the plan.
As per the official communication, retired teachers will be engaged in block grant high schools and Sanskrit TOL (Traditional Oriental Learning) schools. Their services will continue on a temporary basis until new Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) are appointed.
To facilitate the process, eligible retired teachers are required to inform the District Education Officer (DEO) about existing vacancies in their respective areas. Once regular TGTs are appointed to those positions, the guest teachers will be relieved from their duties.
This initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted teaching in schools facing staff shortages while the recruitment process for new teachers is underway.
