Odisha govt to put onus of dropout on headmasters

Bhubaneswar, April 12: The Odisha School and Mass Education Department has taken several new initiatives to check the rising high school dropout rate in the state.

The state-run high school headmasters will review why students are not coming to schools and work at grass roots level to attract students for schooling. Besides, parents of dropout students will undergo counselling by teachers to bring them back to school.

The dropout rate in Class X was 12.8 per cent in 2018-19 that rose to 38.35 percent in 2019-20 and 39.4 percent in 2020-21.

The dropout rate 49.9 per cent in Odish in 2021-22.

The School and Mass Education Department has decided to put onus on high school headmasters to check the rising dropout rate. Now schools have been asked to review how many students took admission in Class - VIII and conduct counselling of parents to increase admission. Similarly, the head masters will submit a review report before the department about why and how many students dropped school after Class - IX.
