Bhubaneswar, August 30: Bringing relief to cultivators across the state, the Odisha government is set to extend the timeline for farmer registration under the procurement system.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Saturday announced that the extension move is aimed at covering those cultivators who could not register within the ongoing period.
“A formal decision will be announced soon, but the registration window will certainly be extended to ensure that no farmer is excluded,” the Minister assured.
This year’s registration drive has already witnessed a remarkable turnout, with 19.66 lakh farmers successfully completing the process. Patra noted that many individuals who had earlier discontinued farming have now returned to register.
He further emphasized that entries made using non-farm lands—including government plots, cremation grounds, or temple properties—would be cancelled following thorough field-level verification and surveys.
