Bhubaneswar, June 12: The Odisha government has launched an ambitious initiative to transform 100 villages across the state into 'Mahapurush Adarsh' villages. These villages, linked to eminent personalities who contributed significantly to India’s freedom struggle, will undergo comprehensive development.
Announcing the initiative on Monday, Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik said that the objective is to rejuvenate historically important but long-neglected rural areas. The project will focus on improving essential infrastructure such as roads, drinking water, irrigation systems, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.
Minister Naik noted that the development drive will be a coordinated effort involving nine to ten state departments. "The process has already begun, and various departments will work together to ensure rapid and integrated development of these villages," he stated.
He emphasized that the state government is committed to meeting all requirements to implement this vision effectively.
Notably, a few months ago, the Minister had appealed to citizens to promptly report drinking water issues to local authorities, in a proactive effort to ensure uninterrupted supply, particularly crucial during the intense summer months.
This village transformation project aligns with the government’s broader mission of honoring historical legacies while improving living standards in rural Odisha.
