Bhubaneswar, Nov 20: The Odisha government has set a target to procure 8 lakh quintal millet this year.
Millet will be procured in 177 blocks in 30 districts. Farmers can register themselves by December 31 foe Kharif procuremet.
The Registrar of Cooperative Societies of Odisha has written to circle officials to expedite the procurement process using guidelines in this regard.
The minimum support price (MSP) has been fixed at Rs 3846 per quintal. Under Odisha Millet Mission, Tribal development Cooperative Corporation Ltd has been chosen as nodal procurement agency.
The Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS0 and Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPCS) will be engaged in the procurement process. Besides, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) will be involved in the process.
The millets will be collected at mandis from January 1, 2024 and continue till March 31.
The state government will buy 4 quintal millet from a farmer per acre cultivation. The madis will be set up within 5 kms of harvesting area.
