Bhubaneswar, August 27:The Odisha government has set up a 24-hour control room and helpdesk at Odisha Niwas in New Delhi to assist Odia residents who may have been stranded or affected by the recent flash floods in Nepal.

The government has issued three contact numbers for those seeking assistance:+91-7428135044, +91-8527580245 and 011-23012807.

The Odisha government’s dedicated helpline is aimed at ensuring timely assistance and coordination for Odias who may be among those affected by the situation in Nepal.

Meanwhile, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday that 21 Indian nationals rescued so far are from Tamil Nadu and were travelling to the Kailash Mansarovar region.

“As of 1300 hours today, we have been able to rescue 21 Indian nationals. This group of 21 people are from Tamil Nadu,” Jaiswal said.

He added that the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu is in touch with the rescued pilgrims and has assured them of all possible assistance.

The MEA has also reported that around 200 Indian nationals undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra remain stranded on the Chinese side of the border.

“Our embassy in Beijing is making all efforts for their safe evacuation. There are approximately 200 Indian nationals there who have sought our assistance for evacuation,” Jaiswal said.

The flash flood struck the Bhotekoshi area near Rasuwagadhi along the Nepal-China border on Wednesday, triggering large-scale search, rescue and relief operations.

The Indian government has said its missions in Kathmandu and Beijing are coordinating with local authorities to locate, rescue and evacuate Indian nationals affected by the disaster.
