Cuttack, May 18: The Odisha government on Friday sought time to make public the facilities available in its schools.

The Orissa High Court on Wednesday had directed the state government to upload information regarding the amenities like drinking water, toilet, playground, electricity connection etc. available in schools on a dedicated website.

Amicus Curiae Prafulla Kumar Rath had put a proposal in the court and two formats have been prepared following his observation visiting several schools in remote parts of the state.

The first format will carry information regarding amenities available in schools and the second format will have data of students taking admission in each school and the number of dropouts. The High Court had directed to give the two formats to Odisha government.

The state government was directed to apprise the court if there is any need to make changes in the format by next hearing on May 17.

During Friday hearing, the state government sought time to take a decision in this regard.

The division bench of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh and Justice M S Raman post the next hearing on June 24 accepting the Odisha government’s request.

According to case records, amicus Curiae Prafulla Kumar Rath had submitted a detailed report before the High Court based on data collected on the availability of basic amenities visiting several schools in remote parts of the state.

Then, on February 28, 2023, the court observed that there is a need to ensure basic facilities in the primary and upper primary schools on war footing basis.
