Bhubaneswar, August 23: The Odisha government has extended the ongoing farmer registration drive for paddy procurement till August 25, giving farmers additional time to enroll.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced that nearly 17 lakh farmers have already registered, and the figure is likely to surpass 20 lakh by the end of the extended period.
For the Kharif 2025–26 season, the state has simplified the registration process to make it more farmer-friendly. Previously, farmers had to provide consent letters from co-heirs as proof of land inheritance, often requiring multiple visits to Revenue Inspector (RI) offices. This cumbersome process led to delays, leaving many unable to register in time and ultimately barred from selling their paddy.
To address this, the Supply Department has introduced a self-declaration form, enabling farmers to register directly without additional documents. The deadline, originally set for August 20, has now been extended to August 25 to ensure no farmer is left out.
"As of today, August 23, the registration drive will continue for two more days. We have already registered around 17 lakh farmers and expect the number to exceed 20 lakh," said Minister Patra.
