Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: The Odisha government has doubled the existing rates of financial assistance payable as death benefits to advocates under the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act, 1987.

The enhancement has been notified by the Law Department through amendment of the existing Schedule to the Act, thereby providing greater financial support to the bereaved families of advocates.

The revised rates have been notified in exercise of the powers conferred under Sections 9 and 16 read with Section 16-B of the Act, on the recommendation of the Odisha Advocates’ Welfare Fund Trust Committee, keeping in view the availability of funds. The enhanced assistance will be admissible according to the completed years of professional practice, with a provision for advocates having less than five years of practice.
