Bhubaneswar, February 28: Darshan at the Shree Jagannath Temple was halted for over an hour on Saturday evening following the Bada Maha Snana ritual, a purification ceremony aimed at maintaining the temple's sanctity.

The ritual was triggered after a devotee vomited near Bhitara Katha. According to temple tradition, the Bada Maha Snana involves pouring water on mirrors placed before the deities, not directly on the idols, to cleanse the temple of impurities.

Such ceremonies are conducted in response to various forms of contamination, including vomiting, blood stains, or the death of an animal or human inside the temple. Darshan resumed once the ritual was completed.
