Khandagiri, Jan 27: A wave of chaos has struck the Khandagiri Mela in Bhubaneswar as the infamous Banjara gang wreaks havoc by swiftly snatching mobile phones, purses, and gold ornaments from unsuspecting visitors. The gang’s brazen acts have led to widespread distress among festivalgoers, prompting the Commissionerate Police to launch a special operation to apprehend the culprits.

In a major development, Khandagiri police have arrested six individuals suspected of being part of the notorious gang. The suspects, believed to be from the Banjara community known for their involvement in such criminal activities, are now in police custody. During the arrest, the authorities seized cash and several mobile phones from the accused, which are currently being examined for further evidence.

According to the police, the gang exploited the festive crowd and confusion at the Mela, strategically targeting victims and snatching their valuables without detection. They closely observed the movement of festival-goers, striking at opportune moments to loot and flee the scene.

The police have assured the public that they are ramping up efforts to identify and arrest other members of the gang. Authorities are calling on Mela visitors to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help prevent further incidents during the ongoing festival.
