Bhubaneswar, July 14: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has sought a comprehensive report on the shocking incident involving a second-year Integrated B.Ed. student of FM (Autonomous) College, Balasore, who allegedly attempted self-immolation due to persistent harassment.
The student, currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, is reported to have taken the extreme step following alleged mental harassment by Samira Kumar Sahu, Head of the Education Department at the college.
Expressing deep concern, Governor Kambhampati stated that he has spoken to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that appropriate measures are being taken. "The Minister assured me that the matter is being taken seriously, and necessary steps have been initiated to provide support and ensure accountability," the Governor shared in a post on social media platform X.
Dr. Kambhampati also reached out to the Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar to get an update on the student's condition. He added that a team of specialists from AIIMS Delhi has joined the medical team to assist in her treatment.
Offering prayers for the student’s recovery, the Governor said, "I pray to Lord Jagannath for her swift recovery and strength, and sincerely hope she regains her health soon."
Stressing the importance of student welfare, he remarked, “The safety, mental well-being, and dignity of students must be safeguarded at all times. I have urged the authorities to act with urgency, empathy, and a strong sense of responsibility to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.”
