Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: In a festive-season relief for workers, the Odisha government has increased the minimum daily wages of workers across four categories by up to Rs 6, effective October 1. The Labour Department has issued a notification announcing the revised wage rates.
According to information from the Office of the Labour Commissioner, the revision follows an increase in the dearness allowance (DA) linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for industrial workers.
Under the revised rates, the minimum daily wage for unskilled workers has increased from Rs 472 to Rs 478. Semi-skilled workers will now receive Rs 527 per day, up from Rs 522, while the daily wage for skilled workers has risen from Rs 572 to Rs 578. For highly skilled workers, the minimum daily wage has been increased from Rs 622 to Rs 628.

The minimum wage rates are revised twice a year, on April 1 and October 1, based on changes in the All-India Consumer Price Index for industrial workers. The average index has risen from 147.50 to 149.80, necessitating a revision in the dearness allowance for the second half of the year beginning October 1.
The latest revision has been approved in accordance with the Labour Commissioner's recommendations and is aimed at adjusting workers' wages to changes in the cost of living.
The revised rates are expected to benefit workers across different skill categories in the state.
