Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: Odisha was immersed in festive joy as people throughout the state celebrated Makar Sankranti today.
Devotees observed the occasion by preparing and offering 'Makar Chaula' to deities in their homes, a tradition where all family members partake in consuming the sacred dish.
In line with customary practices, the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri witnessed special rituals on Makar Sankranti. The offering of 'Makar Chaula' to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and the four Digapalas is a significant part of the festivities.
Puri saw a massive influx of devotees eager to witness the 'Makar Besha' of the deities, adorned in special attire. The Jagannath Ballava Mutt contributed to the festive atmosphere by providing colorful flower garlands to the temple.
Meanwhile, in Khordha district at the Atri hot spring and on Konark's Chandrabhaga beach, large crowds gathered in the morning for a holy bath, contributing to the spiritual fervor of the day.
Makar Sankranti in Odisha also featured kite-flying competitions organized across the state, adding an extra layer of joy and excitement to the celebrations.
