Odisha: Four months after love marriage, woman strangled to death by in-laws over dowry

Bhadrak, Apr 9: A newly married woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband and in-laws in Bansada locality of Odisha’s Bhadrak district reportedly for being unable to meet their dowry demands.

The deceased has been identified as Lipi Sahoo, a resident of Balipada village in the district.

As per reports, Lipi had a love marriage with Kamalakanta Nayak of Sendhagada Village four months back. 

The deceased’s family members alleged that Lipi was subjected to mental and physical torture by her husband and in-laws on a regular basis over dowry demands. Both families have lodged complaints against each other at Ghanteswar outpost.

A few hours after the complaints were registered, Lipi was strangled to death by her husband and in-laws, alleged her family members.

On getting the information, police arrived at the spot and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem. The victim’s in-laws are currently absconding.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
