Bhubaneswar, Apr 11: Ahead of the polls, former Chairperson of Odisha State Commission For Women (OSCW) Jyoti Panigrahi today resigned from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

She ended her 30-long years of association with the conch party and tendered her resignation letter to party supremo Naveen Patnaik.

She cited ‘current asymmetry in party’ and ‘no access to party supreme’ as the reasons behind her move.
Her husband Saroj Kumar Panigrahi, the former Chairperson of Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation, also resigned from the BJD citing ‘sideline’ and ‘negligence’ in the party.

Notably, Jyoti was the Senior Vice-President of Biju Janata Mahila Dal and BJD Observer of Sundergarh district.
She left her career in academics and joined politics in 1995 after being influenced by former Odisha Chief Minister late Biju Patnaik.
