Bhubaneswar, September 18: In a significant ruling, the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Bhubaneswar sentenced Shri Sangram Keshari Behera, former Post Master (Grade-I) of Kujanga Sub-Post Office, Odisha, to four years of rigorous imprisonment.

Behera was convicted of misappropriating government funds by fraudulently closing and withdrawing money from Senior Citizens Savings Scheme (SCSS) accounts.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on him.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case on September 17, 2013. It was found that between September 2011 and August 2013, Behera misused his position to embezzle Rs 19.81 lakh from four SCSS accounts, forging account holders' signatures without their consent.

Following the investigation, a chargesheet was filed in March 2014, and after trial, the court found him guilty.
