Odisha: Elephant tramples two women to death in Deogarh Forest Division

Deogarh, Jan 27: In yet another instance of human animal conflict, an elephant trampled two women to death at Sikursingha village in Laimura forest section under Deogarh Forest Division last night.

The deceased have been identified as Surubali Kisan and Khairi Kisan of the village.

According to sources, Surubali and Khairi were sleeping at their home when the tusker, which is suspected to have strayed into the village in search of food, broke their wall. 

Seeing the pachyderm, the women tried to flee the spot in a bid to save their lives. However, the elephant chased them and trampled them leading to their deaths on the spot.

On getting the information, the Forest department officials reached the spot and seized the bodies. Subsequently, they were sent for post-mortem.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
