Bhubaneswar, May 26: Chilika MLA and BJP candidate from Khurdha Assembly seat Prashant Jagdev has been arrested on charges of vandalizing the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the third phase of twin polls in Odisha on Saturday.
According to sources, Jagdev had gone to cast his vote along with his wife when he vandalized the EVM. He also allegedly attacked the presiding officer who tried to stop him.
BJP’s Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha candidate Aparajita Sarangi was reportedly present at the polling booth when Jagdev carried out his destructive act. After vandalizing the EVM, fled the spot by hiding in Sarangi’s car. However, the police detained him near Begunia.
The ruling BJD has filed a complaint with Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in this regard and demand strict action against Jagdev.
It is worth mentioning that Jagdev had successfully contested the Assembly polls in 2019 and secured the Chilika seat on a BJD ticket.
He joined the BJP after getting expelled from the ruling BJD for his alleged unruly behavior.
