
Keonjhar, July 30: In yet another instance of man-animal conflict, an elderly woman was trampled to death by an elephant in Telkoi area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
The deceased has been identified as Banita Majhi and the incident has been reported from Galada village in Kaliahata panchayat under Telkoi police limits.
As per reports, a herd of nine elephants entered the village around 11:30 pm looking for food. They damaged several houses, including the home of Majhi.
When she tried to run to a neighbour’s house, the elephants attacked her. They dragged her about 10 meters from her home and trampled her to death. Her granddaughter managed to escape and was not hurt.
Upon getting the information, police along with the forest department officials arrived at the spot and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
A pal of gloom descended in the village following the tragic incident.
