Khallikote, June 5: In an unfortunate incident, an elderly woman was thrashed to death by her grandson over a family dispute in Khallikote block of Odisha's Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Ani Swain, a resident of Naikanipalli village within Kodala police limits in the district.
As per reports, a heated exchange of words ensued between Ani and her grandson Chitrasen Swain, who is reported to be mentally unstable, over a family dispute. It later took an ugly turn when Chitrasen, in fit of rage, attacked Ani.
According to eyewitnesses, the accused pulled the elderly woman onto the road and started beating her badly. The attack was so violent that Ani died right there.
By the time the neighbours came to help the elderly woman, she had already passed away. They quickly alerted the police.
Upon getting the information, Kodala police arrived at the scene and nabbed Chitasen. The cops also seized Ani’s body and sent for post-mortem.
A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter was underway, said the police.
