Cuttack, Aug 5: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida today laid the foundation stone for a Common Facility Center (CFC) for Cuttack’s iconic Silver Filigree (Tarakasi) art.
"Cuttack's silver filigree (Tarakasi) craftsmanship has earned global recognition. We have launched an initiative to showcase this traditional art on the world stage. This exquisite craft is also expected to attract tourists," said Parida while speaking to reporters.
As per reports, the project will be constructed in an area of approximately 15,000 square feet in CDA Sector 6 and is estimated to cost a total of Rs 8.80 crores.
Construction for the project is set to begin this month and is expected to be completed within a year. The centre will meet the growing demand for silver filigree products. The construction will involve around 500 workers, including artisans who will be integral to the centre’s operations.
The Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department of the state government has also allocated an additional Rs 5 crores to provide advanced machinery for the centre, ensuring it becomes a modern and efficient hub for silver filigree.
