Baripada, Aug 12: In a gruesome incident reported from Mahuldiha area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a man, in inebriated condition, allegedly thrashed his wife to death over suspicion of an extramarital affair late last night.
The deceased has been identified as Salita and the incident took place at Champajhar village under Mahuldiha police limits in the district.
As per reports, the accused, identified as Uday, returned home drunk and started assaulting Salita with a pipe and an iron rod. She sustained grave injuries in the attack and died on the spot. The accused then reportedly slept beside her body through the night.
This morning, Mahuldiha police arrived at the scene after getting the information and recovered the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem. The cops have also detained Uday for questioning in connection with the murder.
Though the exact motive behind the gruesome killing is yet to be ascertained, prima facie revealed that Uday might have killed Salita over suspicion of an extramarital affair.
A probe has been initiated into the matter and everything will be clear soon, said the police.
