Jajpur, June 12: The death toll in the diarrhea outbreak in Odisha’s Jajpur district rose to four after two more fatalities were reported, confirmed Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Prakash Bal on Thursday.

“The two people who died today are women aged 75 and 42. As of now, 134 patients are being treated at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital,” said the CDMO while speaking to the media persons.

He added that patients in other hospitals, including Jajpur Road, Dharmasala, and Korei, are in stable condition.

As per reports, patients are being treated at several hospitals, including Community Health Centres (CHCs) in Dharmasala, Jajpur Road, and Danagadi, as well as the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jajpur. Those in serious condition have been sent to SCB Medical College in Cuttack for better treatment.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health Services, said that Rapid Action Teams (RATs) in the district are quickly treating all patients and new cases in nearby areas.

Two state-level RATs, made up of doctors, microbiologists, disease experts, and officials from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, have also been sent to the area.

These teams are working closely with the Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer in Jajpur to support local efforts.

Specialists from Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital are treating serious patients. Also, six medicine doctors from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack have been sent to help with patient care.

"The diarrhoea situation in Jajpur district is now under control, and the number of hospital admissions is steadily decreasing. A special team from the Health Department, along with an independent team from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), has been deployed to the district. I am in constant contact with the local MLAs and MPs to monitor the situation closely," said Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.
