Bhubaneswar, April 15: Printing presses see an upswing in the business during election season. But this time the delay in announcement of candidates by major political parties in Odisha has hit their business.
All the three major political parties of the state Congress, BJD and BJP yet to announce full list of candidates for Odisha Lok Sabha and Assembly elections while the nominations for first phase election will start from April 25.
Though campaigning by some candidates has also started but not many printers have yet received orders from any political party or candidate as expected. Only a few printers have started printing campaign materials.
“No party has ordered for banners, pamphlets, posters, leaflets, voters’ slips, called ‘chirkuti’ and other election materials. Only some individuals have ordered for their own constituencies after declaration of tickets. We are waiting for nomination filing for orders from political parties and candidates,” said a prining press owner of Mancheswar area in the city.
Social media has somehow affected the printing business to some extent as candidates are shifting their focus to digital platforms to reach out to voters, said another prining press owner of Saheed Nagar area.
