Koraput, July 19: In a shocking incident, the decomposed body of a woman missing since July 5 was recovered from a forest in Kotpad area of Odisha’s Koraput district.
The woman's husband, identified as Lokanath Jani, was detained over suspicion of killing his wife and questioned during which he allegedly confessed to the crime.
The identity of the deceased woman has not been disclosed by the police and the body has been recovered from a forest near Ambagaon in Murtahandi panchayat under Kotpad police limits.
Initially, the accused claimed that he and his wife had reportedly gone together to work on their farmland, after which the deceased had suddenly walked off and disappeared.
Following her disappearance, the woman’s father filed a missing complaint at the Kotpad police station.
The murder came to light when some local villagers reported a foul smell coming from the forest while grazing cattle. To find out the exact reason behind foul smell, villagers along with Kotpad police reached the location and discovered the woman’s body partially buried under the soil.
Approximately 70% of the body was found buried, with only the feet visible above ground, and the body had already started decomposing.
The police have seized the woman’s body and sent it for post-mortem. Further investigation into the matter was underway.
