Odisha: Curfew further extends 48 hours in Balasore town

Bhubaneswar, June 20: The curfew in Balasore town, Odisha, has been extended for an additional 48 hours until 10 am on June 22, according to a notification issued by the Home department.

 During this period, the curfew will be relaxed for six hours from 7 am to 12 pm, allowing essential activities. However, schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers will remain closed during curfew hours.

The internet ban in Balasore and nearby areas, which was imposed following a clash between two groups on June 18, has also been extended until 10 am on June 22. 

The ban includes social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and X, as well as other data services.

 Balasore Superintendent of Police, Sagarika Nath, said  measures have been to maintain law and order, including deploying over 40 platoons of police personnel and sealing entry and exit points to the town. 


Exceptions to the curfew will only be granted for essential purposes, such as exams or medical emergencies, with valid documentation.

The injured individuals have been admitted to Balasore district hospital for medical attention.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed the collector to restore calm promptly. 

Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar is overseeing operations.
