Odisha : Congress to move ‘No-Confidence Motion’ against BJP government

Bhubaneswar, September 17: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Odisha has announced its decision to introduce a no-confidence motion against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government during the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Odisha Assembly, which begins tomorrow, September 18.

CLP leader and Pottangi MLA Rama Chandra Kadam revealed the move, citing the BJP government’s failure to address several critical issues, including women’s safety, agriculture, unemployment, and the rights of Dalits and Adivasis.

Kadam pointed to a series of distressing incidents, such as the rising cases of crime against women in Gopalpur, Balasore, Balanga, and Brahmagiri, which he said have left the state in shock. He also condemned the brutal murder of a woman police constable in Keonjhar, calling it a stark reflection of the state's deteriorating law and order situation.

“The government has failed to protect women and uphold law and order,” Kadam stated. "This has exposed the deep flaws within the state administration."

On the agricultural front, Kadam criticized the BJP government for its inability to ensure adequate supply of fertilizers, adding that farmers are struggling with inflated prices for essential farming inputs. “Farmers are being forced to pay exorbitant prices, and the government has done nothing to ease their suffering,” he said.

In addition, Kadam slammed the delay in conducting students’ union elections in Odisha’s colleges and universities, accusing the government of neglecting student rights and democratic processes.

Earlier, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das had urged the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to take the lead in moving the no-confidence motion, as the primary opposition party. "If BJD does not move it, Congress will step forward, and we expect their support," Das had said.
