Bhubaneswar: The Congress party’s decision to nominate Biswabhusan Das for the Kakatpur Assembly constituency in Odisha’s Puri district is an interesting development.
Recently, Das switched over to the BJP with hopes of securing their ticket for the Kakatpur seat.
However, the BJP nominated Baidhar Mallik, leaving Das disappointed.
Consequently, Das returned to his parent party, the Congress, just 15 days after joining the BJP.
As a reward for his loyalty, the Congress granted him the party ticket for the upcoming elections.
In the upcoming elections, Das will face Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tusarkanti Behera from the ruling BJD.
Notably, in the 2019 elections, Das had lost to Behera by a margin of over 45,000 votes.
Das had previously contested on a Congress ticket from Kakatpur in the 2009 elections but lost.
In the 2014 elections, the Congress nominated Rabi Sethi for the same seat, but Sethi also faced defeat.
In 2019, Das once again entered the electoral race as a Congress candidate but failed to secure a victory.
The Congress has already announced candidates for 146 out of the total 147 Assembly seats in the state.
The party nominee for the Nilagiri constituency is yet to be declared.
