Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has begun spadework for shortlisting candidates for the 2024 general elections.
The Congress district presidents have been entrusted to shortlist 3 to 5 eligible candidates and submit the list before OPCC president Sarat Pattnayak. They have been directed to keep the name of the shortlisted candidates very confidential.
The OPCC has focused on early candidate selection for mission 2024 to avoid conflict relating to ticket distribution during the election.
Leaders working hand-to-hand with people at the grassroots level and have chances of winning will be prioritised during ticket distribution. The OPCC will send the shortlisted names to AICC for final approval.
The OPCC has written to district presidents on October 14 in this regard asking them to submit the shortlisted list within a month at the office of the president in Congress Bhawan.
The district presidents have been directed to discuss with the party MP, MLAs, former MLAs, former MPs, chairman of blocks, NACs, municipalities, Zilla Parishads and heads of different wings of the party organisation.
