Bhubaneswar, June 22: In a welfare measure for the legal community, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a 40 percent increase in the financial assistance provided to lawyers under the State Welfare Fund.
The welfare scheme provides financial support to practicing lawyers in the state upon retirement and to their families in the event of their death. The enhanced assistance is expected to benefit thousands of lawyers working in courts across Odisha.
According to official information, the financial assistance for lawyers was last revised in 2021. The latest increase reflects the state government's commitment to strengthening social security measures for members of the legal profession.
Under the revised structure, lawyers with five years or less of service will be eligible for financial assistance of ₹1,05,000 in the event of death, which will be paid to their nearest family member. The assistance amount will increase progressively with each additional year of professional experience.
The revised benefits will apply in both retirement and death cases. A lawyer with 30 years of service will now be entitled to the maximum assistance amount of ₹6,30,000 upon retirement. In the event of the lawyer’s death, the same amount will be provided to the nearest family member.
