​​​​​​​Jajapur, Oct 21: While people were joyfully celebrating Diwali with enthusiasm and excitement, a gruesome murder shocked the Jakhapura area of Odisha’s Jajpur district, where a man allegedly beat his wife to death in a drunken state last night.

The deceased has been identified as Kapila Soren (35) and the incident has been reported from Rabana village under Jakhapura police limits in the district.

As per reports, the accused, identified as Rama Soren, returned home drunk and engaged in a heated exchange of words with his wife Kapila reportedly over a family dispute. The argument took a violent turn when Rama started thrashing his wife and son.

As a result, Kapila died on the spot and their son sustained injuries. Following the incident, the accused fled from the scene.

Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and seized the deceased’s body before sending it for post-mortem. Kapila’s son was also admitted to a nearby medical facility for treatment and was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as his health condition deteriorated.

A probe has been launched into the matter and manhunt is underway to nab the culprit involved, said the police.
