Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: On the occasion of Diwali celebrations, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday purchased diyas and other items from street vendors at Unit – I market in Bhubaneswar city.

Reacting to media persons Majhi said I was earlier residing in the backside of Unit – I Market and used to buy my household products from this market. Today, I came here with my wife to buy diyas and other items used in Deepawali rituals.

“I wish all happy, prosperous Diwali and urge all Odia people to buy local products to celebrate Deepawali so that our own people will be benefited,” Majhi said.

“I feel proud that the Chief Minister purchased diyas, sugarcane, oil and other items used for Deepawali rituals from me. He gave me Rs 2,000 after taking the products. It will be the most memorable moment of my life,” said the elderly woman who sold products to Majhi.

Another shopkeeper said, “It is a clear message from Mohan Majhi that he is the Chief Minister of common people and we are excited that he bought Diwali items from us instead of big shopping complexes”.
