Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Thursday expressed deep grief over the death of West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhatacharjee.
Majhi posted on ‘X’, “Saddened to hear about the demise of former West bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. His legacy in Indian politics will be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Omm Shanti”.
In his condolence message, LoP Naveen Patnaik said that Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be remembered for his probity in public life, welfare initiatives and his contribution to nation building.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former West Bengal Chief Minister #BuddhadebBhattacharya. He will be remembered for his probity in public life, welfare initiatives and his contribution to nation building. My condolences to the bereaved family members and admirers. Om Shanti”, Naveen wrote on his ‘X’ handle.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee passed away at his residence on Palm Avenue in South Kolkata on Thursday morning. He was 80 years old.
His daughter, Suchetana Bhattacharjee, confirmed his death, stating that he fell ill after breakfast and passed away shortly thereafter. He is survived by his wife, Mira Bhattacharjee.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011, succeeding the late Jyoti Basu, who was the longest-serving Chief Minister of the state.
