Bhubaneswar, October 15: To ensure transparency in paddy procurement in Kharif season this year, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed that each Minister will oversee one or two districts as observers.

Each Minister will oversee one or two districts, acting as a direct link between the government and farmers to address their concerns. This decision was made during a review meeting held on Tuesday at Lok Seva Bhavan.

The Chief Minister emphasized that ministerial visits to procurement centers (mandis), interactions with farmers, and prompt solutions would demonstrate the government’s dedication to addressing farmers' issues. He urged all departments and District Collectors to collaborate to ensure a smooth procurement process.

Majhi also instructed District Collectors to eliminate irregularities, corruption, and favoritism. An additional payment of Rs 800 per quintal above the minimum support price (MSP) has been introduced, which has garnered positive responses from farmers. Given that 83.16% of registered farmers are small-scale, Majhi stressed that they should be prioritized in the procurement process.

The Chief Minister proposed a large-scale awareness campaign to educate farmers on bringing only FAQ (Fair Average Quality) paddy to mandis. He also called for transparency in quality testing and ordered the appointment of mandi management officers and supervisors to ensure the process was properly monitored.

District Collectors were tasked with preventing paddy imports from other states following the price increase in Odisha. Border areas will be monitored with Enforcement Squads, and highways will be surveilled with CCTV and smart cameras.

The meeting saw participation from key officials, including Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, and several other Ministers. District Collectors joined the session via video conferencing.
