Bhubaneswar, June 21: Chief Minister Mohan Chaan Majhi on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the family members of the Odia workers from the State killed in the ammonia gas leak tragedy at Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

The indemnity will be provided to the next of the kin of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

Two women migrant workers from Odisha are feared dead in the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing and export unit at Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

Expressing deep grief over the tragedy, CM Majhi said the State Government stands firmly with the affected families during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, a three-member team of the State Government reached the affected site to take stock of the situation to coordinate and provide all required support to Odia workers.

“The Odisha Government is in continuous contact with the Tiruvallur district administration and the Tamil Nadu govt to oversee rescue, treatment and relief measures,” a CMO statement said.

On the CM’s directive, Chief Secretary Anu Garg also spoke to her Tamil Nadu counterpart to ensure proper treatment and necessary assistance for the affected Odia workers.
