Bhubaneswar, Aug 23: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi marked the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Kamalakant Government High School in Cuttack by announcing a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore from the Chief Minister Special Assistance (CMSA) for the construction of a Diamond Jubilee Hall. Majhi hailed the school as a beacon of knowledge, acknowledging its six-decade-long contribution to education in the region.
During the event, Majhi outlined ambitious plans to enhance the school’s infrastructure. These include the school's inclusion in the PM Shri Yojana, the construction of a mini stadium, and the development of a two-storey building to cater to the growing needs of students. He stressed that providing quality facilities and opportunities to students is a fundamental responsibility of any government.
The Chief Minister also highlighted various educational reforms undertaken by the state government, such as the transformation of 762 schools into model institutions under the PM Shri scheme. He further elaborated on the ‘Nipun Odisha’ initiative aimed at improving basic education, and the Heritage School Scheme focused on preserving and rebuilding old educational institutions. Additionally, Majhi mentioned the 'Asa School Jiba' campaign, designed to identify and bring out-of-school children back into the education system.
Majhi reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening primary education, pointing to a historic budget allocation of over Rs 31,000 crore for this sector. He also announced plans to recruit 44,433 teachers over the next three years, with 15,000 new positions to be filled annually. Furthermore, the government aims to regularize primary and schematic teachers on six-year contracts.
The event also saw the Chief Minister honouring senior teachers from the school and unveiling a commemorative Diamond Jubilee souvenir. Cuttack MP Dr. Bhatruhari Mahtab delivered the welcome address, while social worker Nayan Kishore Mohanty extended the vote of thanks.
Other dignitaries present included Prakash Chandra Sethi, MLA of Cuttack-Sadar, Souvik Biswal, MLA of Cuttack-Chaudwar, and the school’s headmistress, Subhadarshini Nanda.
