Cuttack, August 18: CISF jawan Monoj Biswal from Odisha’s Dhenkanal district was martyred in a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir on August 14. His body was recovered on August 16 and brought to his native village, Manikamara, on Monday morning.
Hundreds of villagers gathered to pay their last respects as his mortal remains were taken in a procession through the village. Final rites were performed with full state honors, with his nephew Vishu Biswal lighting the funeral pyre. Local officials and CISF personnel were present.
Monoj, a veteran with over 30 years of service, was on deputation from TTPS Talcher and had been posted at the Machail Mata Temple in Kishtwar at the time of the incident.
