Balasore, Sept 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Balasore district on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister landed at the temporary helipad at Padmavati Park at 11:00 am. After conducting the aerial survey, Majhi held a meeting with senior administrative officials and discussed the ongoing flood situation.
The Balasore District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and other key officials were present at the discussion.
Significant flooding has impacted several regions in Balasore district, including Baliapal, Bhograi, Jaleswar, and Basta blocks, due to the rising waters of the Subarnarekha River. The Bhudhabalang and Jalaka rivers are also experiencing high water levels.
In response to the situation, the Odisha government issued a high flood alert for Balasore district on Tuesday. Floodwaters from the Subarnarekha River have inundated over 250 villages across five blocks. As of now, the local administration has evacuated more than 400 individuals to safer locations, particularly from low-lying areas in Bhograi, Jaleswar, Basta, Baliapal, and Sadar blocks.
A preliminary assessment indicates that 264 villages in 56 gram panchayats and 17 wards in Jaleswar municipality have been affected by the floods.
