Bhubaneswar, AP 11: Odisha is celebrating Chhena Poda Dibasa today. Chhena Poda stands as a cherished traditional dessert hailing from the state of Odisha, adored by many for its unique flavor and texture.
From various backgrounds, people come together to enjoy Chhena Poda, crafted from meticulously prepared cottage cheese.
Chhena Poda Dibasa serves as a tribute to the late Sudarshan Sahu of Nayagarh, hailed as the accidental creator of this beloved sweetmeat.
Sudarshan, born on April 11, 1931, alongside his father Bidyadhar Sahu, stumbled upon the recipe for this esteemed Odia delicacy by chance. Renowned for its distinctively lingering burnt cheese flavor, Chhena Poda was made from Sudarshan's experimentation with leftover cottage cheese.
In Nayagarh, the district administration has chosen to commemorate April 11 as 'Bishwa Chhena Poda Diwas' (World Chhena Poda Day).
Additionally, the Nayagarh district administration has taken steps to get a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Chhena Poda, recognizing its cultural and culinary significance.
