Bhubaneswar, April 18: The Odisha government on Thursday approved the voluntary retirement of senior IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh from the 1996 batch,. Currently serving as the Deputy Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Singh's retirement notice, submitted on February 29, 2024, was accepted despite the mandatory three-month notice period requirement.
This relaxation was granted under the same rule, allowing Singh to receive all retirement benefits. According to Rule 16 (2), IPS officers can retire after providing a three-month notice upon completing 30 years of service or reaching the age of 50, with the state government authorized to approve such requests and even waive the notice period upon request.
Singh has worked in different capacities with the Odisha Police and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Before joining the NCB, he headed the Drug Task Force (DTF) of the Odisha Police as Additional Director General (ADG). He also worked with CBI from 2008-2015 as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and handled several high-profile cases.
