Shirtless protesters detained after disrupting New Delhi tech event
Members of the Indian Youth Congress demonstrated without shirts outside Bharat Mandapam on Friday to voice their anger over recent government actions. Taking a strong stand against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party workers launched a massive AI Impact Summit protest. They openly accused the current leadership of being deeply compromised. According to an official statement released by the youth wing, demonstrators felt the nation's core identity was being traded away for corporate interests. Law enforcement officials quickly intervened and detained several individuals from the venue to restore order.
Tensions had already been brewing before these dramatic scenes unfolded in New Delhi. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi recently fired a volley of accusations at the ruling government regarding how they managed the high-profile gathering. He dismissed the entire technology conference as nothing more than a chaotic public relations exercise. Furthermore, he claimed that valuable Indian data was practically put up for sale while Chinese goods took centre stage on the exhibition floor.
Senior opposition figure Mallikarjun Kharge echoed similar sentiments, highlighting severe administrative failures. He pointed out that attendees and participating businesses suffered immense discomfort due to missing basic amenities like drinking water and proper catering. What was meant to proudly display national achievements in artificial intelligence ultimately became an embarrassing disaster, Kharge noted on social media.
Party spokesperson Pawan Khera intensified the verbal assault by directly targeting IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Khera mockingly suggested that the true meaning of AI in this context was simply an incompetent minister. He also took a swipe at the Prime Minister, describing the gathering as just another meaningless festival rather than a serious platform for global innovation.
Ruling party officials immediately hit back against these harsh criticisms and the resulting physical demonstrations. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari expressed deep outrage over the disruptive tactics used by the Youth Congress workers. He accused the opposition of acting on direct orders from their leadership to intentionally sabotage a major international event. Calling their behaviour anti-national, Bhandari demanded a swift public apology while comparing the protesters to urban radicals. Legal proceedings against those taken into police custody are currently underway.
