Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: A low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression by the evening of September 21 and further strengthen into a deep depression by September 23, according to a preliminary assessment by the SOA Centre for Environmental and Climate (CEC).
The weather system, being associated with the monsoon current, may not intensify further, the CEC said in its preliminary bulletin.
The system is likely to cross the Odisha coast between Ganjam and Puri districts during the night of September 23 or the forenoon of September 24, according to the assessment.
Under its influence, several coastal, southern and western districts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall between September 22 and 26, the CEC said.
The weather system is expected to bring a spell of widespread rainfall across the state, particularly over southern and coastal Odisha during the period.
