Bhubaneswar, May 10: Odisha continued to reel under intense heat as six locations across the state recorded maximum temperatures of 40°C or above on Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions persisted in 11 districts.
The IMD has forecast similar weather to persist for the next five days, with relief unlikely before May 14.
Sambalpur emerged as the hottest spot, with the mercury climbing to 40.6°C. It was closely followed by Hirakud and Angul at 40.1°C, while Jharsuguda, Titlagarh, and Boudh each recorded 40°C. All of these locations lie in the western region of the state, which has been experiencing severe heat in recent days.
The coastal belt wasn’t spared either. Bhubaneswar recorded a high of 39.2°C, and Cuttack followed with 38.8°C. High relative humidity levels—exceeding 70 percent—intensified the discomfort in these areas, making conditions feel even more oppressive.
